Kasaya Collector - Elder Jinchi
Elder Jinchi is the abbot of Guanyin Temple and a kasaya collector. When Tang Sanzang and Wukong passed by Black Wind Mountain, they stayed overnight at Guanyin Temple. Naturally, Elder Jinchi did not miss the opportunity to show off his collection to Tang Sanzang and Wukong. However, Wukong found Elder Jinchi's kasayas too ordinary and decided to show off Tang Sanzang's kasaya, which was given by Guanyin and is a rare treasure in the world. Elder Jinchi requested to borrow the kasaya for a night to appreciate it, and Wukong agreed. The more Elder Jinchi admired the kasaya, the more he desired to possess it. Eventually, controlled by his greed, he called upon his two disciples at the temple, Guangzhi and Guangmou, to help him come up with a plan.
The three of them devised a plan to set fire to the temple where Tang Sanzang and his disciples were staying, hoping that in the ensuing chaos, they would be able to steal the kasaya. However, their malicious plan did not go as intended. The fire they set ended up spreading uncontrollably, and the three conspirators found themselves trapped by the very flames they had ignited.
Seeing the fire getting out of control, Elder Jinchi rushed to save his collection of kasayas, only to find that Tang Sanzang's kasaya had disappeared. In the process of searching for Tang Sanzang's kasaya, he lost his other kasayas as well. Ultimately, the fire consumed Guanyin Temple, and Guangmou and Guangzhi perished while trying to extinguish the flames. Elder Jinchi, having failed to steal the kasaya and losing everything in the process, was overwhelmed with shame and eventually hanged himself.
